RISK more than others think is safe.
CARE more than others think is wise.
DREAM more than others think is practical.
EXPECT more than others think is possible.

“I am learning all the time. The tombstone will be my diploma.” – Eartha Kitt
I have a passion for learning and I consider everyone I meet to be a potential teacher. I love to travel and immerse myself in a foreign culture. I believe that we learn the most when we step outside of our comfort zones, so I try to take risks and force myself into unfamiliar situations in order to grow and fully experience life, whether that be traveling to Tokyo all alone or jumping out of a plane.
I’m a graduate of Michigan State University where I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 2009. I also received my Masters Degree in Inner City Studies Education from Northeastern University. During my time at MSU, I studied abroad in Thailand for four months where I interned at a non-profit organization that worked with children and families living in the slums of Bangkok. Volunteering is something I try to do often in an attempt to make a small difference whenever and wherever I can. Since I love to travel and volunteer I combine the two whenever possible. I've also volunteered in Mexico at an orphanage called Casa Hogar for children with disabilities. I’ve donated my time to Big Brothers Big Sisters for nine years; and Toys for Tykes is a project I've been involved with during the holiday season. It is run by the Detroit Fire Department, where my father worked as a firefighter. We collect toys, donations, and groceries for those in need and distribute them to the community. I was born in Detroit, so you will never hear me rooting for any Chicago sports team, except maybe the White Sox, but not when they are playing the TIgers!
I taught for six years at Pershing Magnet, and am excited to start my tenth year at Shoesmith! I'm looking forward to meeting new faces, and believe this will be the best year yet! I can't wait to get started!
